Best VPS Hosting

Dedicated vCPU and RAM slices with root access.

A virtual private server (VPS) gives you a guaranteed slice of a physical server — a fixed number of CPU cores, memory and storage — with full root access. You can install any software, run several sites or apps, and your performance is not affected by other customers the way it can be on shared hosting.

VPS hosting is the usual next step after shared hosting, and the standard choice for developers, agencies, game servers and small SaaS apps. Unmanaged VPS plans are cheapest but you handle security updates yourself; managed VPS plans include a control panel and server administration.

How to choose

  • Decide managed or unmanaged. Unmanaged is cheaper but you patch and secure the server yourself.
  • Compare the guaranteed resources: vCPU count, RAM, NVMe storage and monthly bandwidth.
  • Check whether CPU is shared or dedicated. Dedicated vCPUs give steadier performance under load.
  • Pick a data-centre close to your visitors. Distance adds delay to every page load, and some data must stay in a given country.
  • Look for snapshots and easy resizing so you can roll back mistakes and scale up without migrating.
  • Compare the renewal price, not just the first term. Introductory prices often apply only to the first billing period; check what you will pay from year two.
  • Read the uptime promise and what it pays out. A 99.9% guarantee allows about 43 minutes of downtime a month; look for service credits when it is missed.
  • Test support before you buy. Send a pre-sales question and see how fast and how clearly they answer.

Frequently asked questions

Who needs a VPS?

Anyone who has outgrown shared hosting, needs root access to install custom software, or runs apps, game servers or several busy sites.

Is a VPS hard to manage?

An unmanaged VPS needs basic Linux skills. A managed VPS or one with a control panel is close to shared hosting in ease of use.

VPS or cloud hosting — which is better?

A VPS has fixed resources at a fixed price. Cloud hosting can scale up and down on demand and is billed by usage; many cloud providers sell VPS-style instances too.
